Final Fantasy on the Nintendo Wii U could be a game changer

If you consider yourself to be an RPG fan and are strongly thinking about picking up a Nintendo Wii U console next year, we have a bit of a bombshell to bring you now. Square-Enix has issued a statement, saying that they would now be willing to create a Final Fantasy title for Nintendo’s new system.

As Wii owners will know, Square-Enix previously brought the Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicle series to the Wii after first appearing on the GameCube, but they were obviously under hardware restrictions which prevented them from bringing titles such as Final Fantasy XIII to the console.

However, this may have all changed now with the introduction of the technically superior Nintendo Wii U console, and Square-Enix has been quick to tout it’s capabilities, as you’ll see in the following quote from FFXIII-2 producer Yoshinori Kitase, as reported from VG247:

“Three or four years ago we joked around about developing a Final Fantasy game on the Wii Fit balance board. But after seeing Wii U revealed at Nintendo’s conference, we are now considering the possibilities of bringing the Final Fantasy series to the format.”

Imagine seeing Final fantasy XIII and XIII-2 on the new Nintendo console, complete with unique controls that take advantage of the innovative touchscreen controller on the Wii U? It’s certainly an exciting prospect and one that we would love to see materialize.

What ideas do you have for bringing a Final Fantasy title to the Nintendo Wii U, in relation to using the new control scheme?
