Modern Warfare 3 has improved engine, are Battlefield 3 gamers worried?

Most of you have probably already seen it, but for those of you that haven’t, Activision and Infinity Ward have just shown off the very first gameplay cinematic trailer for Modern Warfare 3. That was a while ago, and now you’ll be pleased to hear that we have some more good news for those of you planning to pick the game up on November 8th.

Infinity Ward’s community head Robert Bowling has just revealed a bit of a bombshell, in the fact that Modern Warfare 3 actually uses an improved engine, compared to the one used for Modern Warfare 2. Here is what he replied to a user on Twitter when asked if there is a new engine for Modern Warfare 3 or not:

”@Sebianoti We haven’t gone into detail on the engine yet but we’ve moved beyond the MW2 engine and added a lot of cool stuff for #MW3”

That means that Modern Warfare 3 has a new engine of some sort after all, even if it hasn’t been made from the ‘ground up’ so to speak, such as the Frostbite 2.0 engine from EA DICE. And judging by the trailer itself, it certainly does look as if Infinity Ward’s engine improvements has paid dividends to the overall outcome in terms of visuals compared to MW2.

It looks very impressive, and we’re hoping we hear some more information in detail on Infinity Ward’s upgraded engine soon. We want to hear your thoughts on this, both from Modern Warfare players and Battlefield players. Which engine looks more impressive?
