Philips EnduraLED A21: Brighter more Expensive Bulb

As technology advances more energy efficient products begin to surface. No one product is more iconic than the most commonly used electrical product, the light bulb. Its design has come a long way since it was first invented replacing the candle as a source of light.

Now light bulbs tend to use LED technology in order to give us the brightest light using the least energy. This technology however doesn’t always come cheap. The new Philips EnduraLED A21, the latest LED from Philips is one such product.

These bulbs replace the old 75W bulbs, last 25 times longer and use 80% less energy than the traditional bulbs. For the extra efficiency there is a cost, the EnduraLED price will be somewhere from $40 to $45 according to Inhabitat.

    disposal concerns,
    having lead, arsenic and toxic vapor content, according to University
    of California (Davis and Irvine) research

    They suggest wearing safety protection when breakage occurs and that
    the bulbs should be recycled.
    They also maintain that there was insufficient product testing before
    LED bulbs came onto the market. There was a law that was supposed to
    take effect on January 1 that would have mandated such testing, but it
    was opposed and blocked by industry groups, and has been put on

      any toxic materials in LEDs are encased in an epoxy resin, so breakage is not really an issue.
      in the study you have referenced, the LEDs found to contain levels of lead and arsenic were low-intensity red christmas light strings. as you may know, LEDs contain different materials depending on the color of emitted light.

      it may be worthwhile to note here that these Philips EnduraLED products are RoHS compliant, meaning they specifically do not contain lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, or polybrominated diphenyl ether.
