Whenever a commercial comes on the TV for the iPhone saying that there is an app for that you try and think of something that is not possible. Well if you were thinking that you couldn’t lock a door with an app, then think again. Lockitron potential for the Nexus S and iPhone 5 is amazing, something that needs to be seen to be believed, which you can do in the video below.
Apify is backing Y-combinator and offers a solution for you to get rid of your keys, as you will be able to open any door with the use of an app and some hardware. Do not worry about people being able to hack your Wi-Fi, as this solution uses a plug server and Ethernet cable all connected to the lock. Your handset will then connect to the lock by contacting the server that controls the locking mechanism.
Lockitron is future proof, as it uses NFC; this means that the Nexus S will be able to use it and hopefully the iPhone 5, if Apple decides to add in Near Field Communication. Do not worry if your battery runs low or the system fails for some reason, as there are always keys as a backup.
For just $5 per month you can sign up to Lockitron’s text messaging feature. This means that you do not need the latest handset on the market, as you will be able to lock or unlock a door just by sending an SMS using any phone. You will see in the video that even an old Nokia can do the job. It seems that we will soon be in a cardless and keyless society, but are we truly ready for it?
