Uncertainty over iPhone 5 release date, reasons given to buy now

By Gary Johnson - May 5, 2011

This time last year we were getting images of the next iPhone surfacing on the internet as we approached the WWDC event. But this year it looks like there will be no new iPhone released until after the summer. With the uncertainty over the iPhone 5 release date, we have some reasons given to buy now.

An article by Don Reisinger of eWeek.com is looking at some reasons why it would be a good idea to purchase an iPhone 4 now, instead of waiting for the next version. At the moment we don’t know of any launch date for the iPhone 5 but it is looking like it will be towards the end of the year. For people who want a new smartphone now it doesn’t make sense to wait longer.

Now the white iPhone 4 has been released on AT&T and Verizon consumers can get hold of a smart looking device now. Reviews have pointed to the device performing really well. For the time being you need not worry about 4G services as they aren’t available to everyone.

When the next iPhone becomes available it is not thought to be overly different to the current model, and issues with the antenna problem hasn’t affected all owners and is easily fixed with a bumper which many people use anyway. For those who still own the iPhone 3GS now will be a good time to upgrade to the iPhone 4 as the device is starting to show its age now.

What do you think? Will you wait or are you considering the iPhone 4?

  • sad for my daughter who has waited for ages in good faith for the next gen i5-which it doesn’t look like she’ll get-just an upgraded i4. Atleast with a Blackberry 9810 I know what I’m getting-an upgraded 9800 which is all I want.

I got a iPhone 3GS and I wish I could agree with you to buy an iPhone 4 now but I'm crap at saving and I'm also trying to save up for a netbook and PS3, so I'm going to wait for the iPhone 5.

  • Yeah I Said It

I can wait. I'm in no big hurry. I got the 32 Gb 3GS soon as it dropped. I have 5 phones on my account which gives me the option to upgrade yearly but I am waiting for a bigger screen and more memory. I also hope they fix or give us a way to do a clean transfer of all of our current apps, contacts and folders onto the new device.
