BlackBerry Protect App Explained

By Jamie Pert - May 2, 2011

Everyone hates losing their smartphone especially BlackBerry owners who use their handset for business purposes, however an official BlackBerry application may make things much more bearable as it designed to make this a lot less painless.

BlackBerry Protect is freely available and can be downloaded via BlackBerry App World here, it runs on pretty much all BlackBerry smartphones as long as your are running OS 4.6 or later.

Once you have installed and configured the app you will be able to wirelessly back up contacts, text messages, your calendar, memos, tasks and browser bookmarks. You can choose to run incremental back ups either daily, weekly or monthly and if you are worried about data usage you can set it to only back up via WiFi. If you do happen to lose your BlackBerry all of your data can be downloaded wirelessly to your replacement handset.

There are lots of useful functions which you can make the most of if you lose you BlackBerry, you can locate your BlackBerry on a map, password protect and lock it, wipe all of the contents, make the handset ring so you can easily find it and even display a message on the homescreen showing instructions to whoever has found it.

Later today I will install the app on my BlackBerry and post a review, have you used BlackBerry Protect? If so, do you like the app? Has it saved you from losing personal information etc? Let us know in the comments section below.

I downloaded BB Protect just in time to watch my smartphone turn dumb…it took a dive into a glass of water. Got the new device and once I downloaded the software, all appeared to be normal. All except the settings. Can you add a settings feature to back up the way you setup your device? Haven't need to lo-jack my phone so I don't know how well that portion works! Adeffinite must download for BB users!
