Late Verizon iPhone 5 may release with Qualcomm LTE chip

There were two things that we learned from Apple yesterday, one was that WWDC 2011 sold out in a short amount of time, and the other was that they were only going to mention iOS and Mac OS. This led to rumors that the 5th-generation iPhone would be a no-show. However, there are now rumors that a late Verizon iPhone 5 may release this year and will come with a Qualcomm LTE chip.

There are two ways to look at this, the first is that the new iPhone could launch in June, as it has done for the past few years. However, we cannot help but think that Apple has been pushing themselves and wishes to make sure that the time is right before they push a new smartphone to consumers.

We had assumed that is was one of those rumors that we just ignored, but Cult of Mag believes that there could be some truth to it. They believe that the launch of the Verizon iPhone early this year and the constant rumors that a white iPhone 4 will still be released all points to one thing – the iPhone 5 will not be here any time soon.

If Apple is waiting until later this year, then there is a good chance that they have done so to offer consumers the chance to gain access to Verizon’s 4G LTE service, which will use the Qualcomm chip. This is all very well, but what about those who do not want their iPhone 5 on Verizon – why should they wait just for the needs of one carrier and its customers?
