It’s been just over a month since Activision decided to pull the plug on its Guitar Hero franchise, and we’re already hearing news that Ubisoft is planning to release a guitar-based game of its own. The game in question is titled Rocksmith, and will be played with a real electric guitar.
According to an article by Paul Bond over at the hollywoodreporter.com website, the developer is even said to be negotiating with the likes of Gibson and a few others, in order to sell an edition of the Rocksmith game that would come bundled with an electric guitar for around $200.
When the game – which will be available for both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 – arrives in stores in September this year, it will contain around fort-five tracks from artists and bands such as David Bowie, Nirvana, the Animals and the Rolling Stones.
Although the game will no doubt be compared to the Guitar Hero game, Ubisoft said that pushing buttons on a toy guitar is nothing like playing the real thing. The company’s vice president of marketing Tony Key said that Guitar Hero is a party game, while Rocksmith is a music experience.
