The BlackBerry Playbook, like most upcoming devices has had its release date thrown around somewhat. March rumors seemed more likely, but we also heard that April 10 was also a possible candidate. Now it seems as though the original date of somewhere around the end March is the one set in stone for the U.S.
As reported by IntoMobile, RIM representative Steven Bates confirmed that the 1GHz, QNX-based BlackBerry Playbook will indeed be hitting stores at the end of the month.
Although we’re not sure of the exact details, RIM are probably trying to push out the Playbook as soon as possible due to the impending release of Apple’s iPad 2, which is due to launch in just under a weeks time.
With Apple’s new iPad coming soon, and the Motorola Xoom already on the market, the Playbook will be almost set head-to-head with the iPad 2 which would mean that users looking to delve into the world of tablets will have more choice when it comes to tablets, especially as BlackBerry enthusiasts have waited almost six months for it.
Europeans will also be glad to know that the Playbook will be “one of the early ones” among the region to get the BlackBerry tablet in stores by Q2.
