No 4G and Apple iPad 2 Specs are Disappointing

Now that we have let the dust settle on Apple’s big iPad 2 announcement earlier on today, we want to know your overall thoughts on the device. Were you completely blown away with what you saw, or do you actually think that Apple’s new tablet is disappointing?

While it was confirmed that the iPad 2 will be equipped with a new 1Ghz dual core Apple A5 processor, there doesn’t seem to be too much else to get excited about. For example, Apple announced that the iPad 2 would have rear front and back cameras, but they failed to go into detail on them, meaning we’re still unsure of the exact resolution of the sensors.

On the subject of the display screen, there is nothing new to report. No higher resolution, no new technology and no enhanced retina display of some sort – this may not bother you too much though for those who already believe the display screen on the iPad to be good enough.

Another non-feature of the iPad 2 which is sure to come in for a fair amount of criticism is the fact that the device doesn’t have support for 4G network speeds, which will put a smile on the faces of Motorola for example, who will soon have their Xoom tablet fully equipped with 4G LTE support. Even though Verizon is 4G LTE ready, Apple’s iPad 2 is not, so they’ll have to rely on AT&T’s and Verizon’s 3G cellular networks for the time being.

It doesn’t really send out a positive message for consumers who are going to be stuck on old technology does it? If RIM’s BlackBerry Playbook ends up on Sprint’s 4G WiMAX network, then Apple will definitely be taking more notice of their competitors than normal we expect.

What are your thoughts on the iPad 2 specs? Are you disappointed by them or not. Can you manage without 4G connectivity speeds or do you think Apple need to step up the game in 2011?
