Battlefield 3: First Gameplay Video – PC or Console Graphics?

By Alan Ng - Feb 24, 2011

We have a treat for gaming fans now, as EA has unveiled the very first snippets of actual gameplay footage for Battlefield 3. To say it looks amazing is an understatement. You definitely can’t miss out on this.

The video is only less than a minute in length, but the small teases of gameplay are enough to keep us talking for months, dont forget that the game will be shown at the upcoming GDC conference as well.

We’ve been reading some feedback online from gamers who have already seen the trailer, and there seems to be a debate over which platform these graphics are based on. Some are saying that the visuals are far too good for the PS3 and Xbox 360, but then again – it could just be the real power of the Frostbite 2 engine – seen in it’s full glory for the first time.

Personally, we hope these graphics are the console version, which means that they could be enhanced even further to those with a beefed up PC running DirectX 11. Take a look at the video below and let us know your thoughts on it.

Are these stunning graphics taken from the console or PC version of the game guys?

Those are definitely not 360 graphics. They could be PS3 if they spent a lot of time developing for it. They said special consideration would be given for the PC version so it stands to reason that would be the version they tease everyone with. It's not to say the console versions won't look good but dx11 is pretty much a PC platform and though the 360 is by Microsoft I don't think it has a dx11 graphics chip set and I know ps3 doesn't in all its cell processing glory. They did say they would program for the systems independently (no ports) so the versions should look great on all systems none the less.

All I will say is, play the game as it should be played; on the PC.

Most people don't have 2 thousand bucks to spend on a rig that will play it looking that good!

This is a myth. Even the $1000 pc is a myth. Build a pc yourself and don't buy the brand new expensive graphics cards (amount of performance gain per dollar spent quickly declines), and instead just upgrade 3 years later.

Never pay a company like alienware to build one for you. Also, don't use their insane prices as an indicator to how expensive it is to have a pc that can play games with good visuals.

I wish those were the console graphics!! than again like you said maybe it is the power of the frosbite 2 engine. I guess we will have to wait and see but i wont get my hopes up. Where the hell is the ps4 and the next xbox when you need em?

Those graphics are not so different from the Killzone, and Crysis graphics. I don't think those are the console graphics. Then again nobody thought killzone 2 would look that good. For me, as long as the graphics are close to that on PS3 AND they get rid of the screen tearing, I'll be happy.
