iOS 4.2.1 Untethered Jailbreak: PwnageTool 4.2 – Download and Video

By Alan Ng - Feb 18, 2011

You may remember just over a week ago when we told you that the iPhone Dev Team were preparing to release an untethered jailbreak for users on iOS 4.2.1 devices. We can now confirm that the software is now available and we have a video guide showing you how to install it.

The download links have been provided by the guys over at Redmond Pie, who have also taken the time to shoot a video guide, showing you exactly how to get this running on your device if you are unfamiliar with installing jailbreak software.

You’ll be pleased to know that PwnageTool 4.2 supports almost all devices, meaning that those of you with an iPhone 4 can enjoy this as well. You’ll now be able to make full use of software such as Cydia and you won’t need to reinstall any more software after rebooting your device. PwnageTool 4.2 also supports the iPhone 3G, 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, 4G and even the recently released Verizon iPhone too.

If you are wondering if this is available on the iPad or Apple TV, rest assured as PwnageTool 4.2 should work just fine as well. If you know what you’re doing, head to RedmondPie for the download links. Just a quick reminder, if you’re planning to use PwnageTool 4.2 on the Verizon iPhone, it will void your warranty with Apple and Verizon – but you probably already knew that.

Check out the video tutorial below. If you run into any trouble whilst updating, leave us a comment below. You can also head to the iPhone Dev Team website here for help from other users.

    1) Can I use this to jailbreak then unlock my iPhone 3GS which comes with OS 4.2.1 and baseband 5.15.04, without moving baseband to 6.15.0?

    2) I have another iPhone 3GS which was 5.14.02 then I recently did jailbreak then unlock with the basedband moved to 6.15.0. However, I hate to always reboot the iPhone using redsn0w. So, can I use this way to re-do this iPhone then I can reboot without redsn0w and stay unlocked?
