iPhone Alarm Problem: Not working – Temporary Fix

By Alan Ng - Jan 2, 2011

It looks like the iPhone alarm clock is coming under fire again, as we can confirm that the alarm clock on devices is again causing problems for users, this time due to the change over to the new year.

If you woke up this morning confused that your alarm didn’t go off, don’t be alarmed – it’s a confirmed bug in iOS, one which Apple has already acknowledged and they’ve also issued an official statement on the matter.

Here is what they had to say on the matter, as reported by Engadget:

”We’re aware of an issue related to non repeating alarms set for January 1 or 2. Customers can set recurring alarms for those dates and all alarms will work properly beginning January 3.”

They haven’t specifically stated the reason for the problem, but we’re guessing that it is related to the same problem that caused the alarm clock to fail during the switchover to DST.

The good news, is that the problem will automatically fix itself on January 3rd, but if you are looking for a temporary fix until then, you can just set a recurring alarm for your chosen time and it should work with no problems.

What are your thoughts on this new alarm clock problem? How did the error affect you? Did you miss something important because of it or not?

January 6…alarm worked fine UNTIL this morning. I've had a recurring alarm on this phone forever. i woke up 1 1/2 hours late. Apple said to update my software.

  • Miky

Mine still doesnt work. I UPLOADED THE NEW 4.2.1 and still nothing. this also happen to me when we had the time change. My phone said the correct time but the phone alarm went off an hour later.

  • Neil

Still faulty, my alarm didn't go off on the 3rd either.

  • Liviu

damn it Apple, it's the second time I don't wake up because of you buggy app. Get your act together!

SOOOO upset! I am a teacher and my husband's alarm and my alarm did NOT go off! I came to school disheveled and with soaking wet hair. REALLY not cool. At first I thought that I had slept through the alarm and I was SO frustrated with myself as I have never in 40 years slept through anything! But now I am relieved that it wasn't me, but frustrated that I didn't know about this glitch!!

  • Samantha

I set six alarms everyday none of them worked and its january 3 ( "the day it was supposed to fix itself") If apple knew about this they should have put a warningout absolutely redic!

  • Dave

No mine never went off this morning (the 3rd Jan) either. I have now deleted all my alarms and created new (non-repeating) ones and they SEEM to work. Problem is that I have totally lost confidence in my iPhone to actually wake me when push comes to shove and it is important that I am on time!

  • Dom

Still had the same problem I set my alarm as a once of this morning and I'm still waiting for it to go off and it the 3rd of January mmmmmmmm!!!!!!

  • Tim

It’s 3rd now and my other half’s alarm still did NOT go off? So much for the glitch being fixed ?????

  • Didn’t fix itself automatically on the 3rd. Luckily, I did dig up my ten year old Nokia phone, and that worked. Apple needs to fix problems – at least Microsoft bothers to!

  • FIX: The phone must be rebooted!

I woke up randomly this morning and I was almost late for work. If it wasn’t for my boyfriend I could of slept all day. It is supposed to be the user, not the hardware. I take this seriously, especially from apple. Get it together. Switching to an old fashion alarm clock until apple regains my trust.

This is good news for me! I was sleeping in a different room last night without am alarm clock. I am new to the iPhone and I have been telling everyone how much it can do to make life simpler. So, of course I used the iPhone alarm to make sure that I got myself and the rest of my household up for church this morning. Whoops! Overslept.

I've been kicking myself all day for screwing something up only to find a minute ago that it was Apple's fault, not mine. I feel better about myself now. 🙂

Set my iPhone to wake up yo get to airport.

Luckily I woke up 1 hour late but still made my flight

    I would have been furious

My husband was two hours late for work! He's the head chef for of a restaurant, you can't be late as the head chef!!! I work mornings on the news, and this is just shameful!!

I woke up naturally around 10 minutes before I had to be at work. I called work right away, and after I arrived I was able to confirm that there was in fact a bug in the clock app again (though curiously one of my coworker’s iPhone 3G didn’t have any problems.

I have noticed that the timer works fine, so I’ll be doing that until I’m sure the clock works again

  • Alex

I didn’t have a clue about this. I luckily had 2 set an alarm last nite that didnt go off so I used an alarm clock app instead. I couldve missed work if I hadn’t. Apple really need 2 get their act 2gether. I will never get another iPhone. Nothing but problems.
