The 2011 BAFTA Video Game Awards ceremony took place in London on Wednesday evening and besides the big awards of the night such as Best Game — which as we previously mentioned went to Mass Effect 2 — and the Game trophy, there was also a category entitled “Ones to Watch.”
As Dan Whitworth at bbc.co.uk recently reported, the 2011 BAFTA “Ones to Watch” award went to That Game Studio, for their Twang! game. 23-year old former University of Abertay student Thomas Finlay, who was part of the game’s development team, spoke to Dan about how the game was created.
Thomas explained that they actually made the game Twang! Game over a 10 week period, as part of the Dare to be Digital competition. The competition was to get into a team of five, and create a game over the course of 10 weeks. At the end of the 10 weeks they had to present their game to the public.
Finlay said that he almost didn’t apply for the said competition, but he decided to apply to be a Scottish ambassador at the last minute. He was then placed on the Swedish team, which meant he had to travel to Sweden for a week to meet everyone and then come back and make a game.
We’ve embedded a trailer below this post, so people can see what the game is like for themselves. Have you ever heard of or played Twang!? If you have, let us know what you think of it.
