Apple iPad 2: Release Date Update – April 2011?

By Alan Ng - Dec 8, 2010

We have some exciting news to bring you now, we have some more details on the rumored second generation Apple iPad, or iPad 2 as it is more commonly known. We may be closer to a release than we previously thought.

As reported from Engadget, fresh information has come courtesy of Digitimes, who have said that suppliers Foxconn have been told to ship the iPad 2 within the next 100 days.

That doesn’t mean that the iPad 2 will be available to buy in February though, as Foxconn will first have to deliver units to Apple, who then take care of launch proceedings. If the details above are true, then it could mean that the iPad 2 will be available to buy in retail stores sometime during April – what are your thoughts on this?

It looks like the next iPad is going to release around the same time as RIM’s BlackBerry Playbook, which has definitely been picking up momentum recently, especially after it’s appearance at All Things Digital.

For those of you who still don’t own an iPad, are you interested in the upcoming smaller model or not? It looks like the second generation iPad will be around 7-inches in size, meaning that the Samsung Galaxy Tab will face even more competition from Apple.

The iPhone is in a 5-year contract with AT&T starting in 2007. So for all of you who can't add, that is 2012! Not April 2011…. And iPad will not have a 7-inch display, Jobs said it himself.

What's the point in making it smaller? That's my problem with the iphone and ipod touch, they're just too small to really function anything on. Granted the smaller ipad will still be bigger than an ipod or iphone, but if Apple was smart, they'd remain different from their competition and keep the ipad the same size it is now and just make the resolution tighter.

I totally agree with Ben. Apple missed the boat on not including even a single still-photo camera in the first iPad. What was up with that??? It's not like they didn't know that Facetime was in the works with the iPhone 4. That's the only reason that I don't currently own an iPad right now! Anyway, I'm sure they'll add at least a user facing camera (hopefully one on the other side too), but if they reduce the size of it, guess what… I still won't be owning an iPad, and will be very disappointed about that.
