Dell Streak: Android 2.2 Froyo Update on AT&T – Do you Have it?

We have some great news for Dell Streak owners now, as it looks like the Android 2.2 Froyo update is now starting to roll out to carrier versions of the device, as some Streak owners on AT&T have already got the update.

In case you didn’t know, the unlocked version of the Dell Streak has been enjoying the Froyo update for a while now, but it looks like Dell are now working hard to push it out to the carrier versions.

A screenshot has been provided with this report over at Phandroid, which confirms that some users have already received notifications from AT&T about the update.

The question is though, have you? The rollout process can often be a long one, so don’t get too frustrated if you don’t have it, but at least you know that you will have it within the next couple of weeks.

If you have received the update, or are still waiting for it, leave us a comment below with your current status.

  1. GREED is right! It's April 11 and no update from AT&T.
Problem is, they want to redo the update so you can't tether unless you pay them for it.
    GREED!

  2. Dell is now selling a Unlock Streak with 2.2 update. but no update for ATT? Whats up? No love for the 99 dollers streak phone. I was also told update is comming. Only to see the unlock streak get it. Just brought for my brithday. Now I'm stuck with a 1.6 phone for two years Geee thanks ATT for the gift. 🙁

  3. Android take forever to update there devices I'm tired of that thing I'm going back to iphone 4 fcuk the dell streak update

  4. I am here in Las Vegas NV…and i am still waiting on the update..nothing yet..come on already…i will differently post if i receive anything in the next couple of day…But if i don't get it well then i am looking forward to the ATRIX 4G WITH THE LAPTOP ACCESSORY..

  5. I was told it would be out for AT&T customers before the end of the year 2010. It is almost Feb. 2011 and still nothing! I was lied to multiple times now by Dell and AT&T. I was also told that I was the only one who has complained about this by an AT&T representative. Do they tell this to all their customers who make a complaint? No wonder AT&T is rated so low for customer satisfaction. I am a new customer with them beginning the end of last year and they have already screwed up my bill twice. Not only do I not get 3G where I live in Waterloo/Cedar Falls, Iowa, but their customer service sucks as well! Appears as if their software team isn't the greatest either. How much you wanna bet they remove the tethering feature from the update, so they can charge you extra for using the data you are already paying for? Why do they care which hardware you are using as long as you don't go over your limit? I will tell you why… Greed!

  6. Forgot to mention, the 'manager' I was speaking with also told me I was the ONLY ONE who has complained about this, and he has had no other reports of any complaints. REALLY??? What, is this guy an Ostrich with his head in the sand, or what?

Guess all the rest of y'all don't count any more than I did.

  7. Hope you're not all holding your breath waiting.

I just hung up with AT&T. First I called Dell, who told me they have the OTA update and are ready to release it but cannot as AT&T has once again delayed it. No one seems to know WHY, just that it has happened.

So I called AT&T and worked my way 3 levels up the support chain to try and get an answer. Ultimately I was told that no one at AT&T could tell me when it would actually be released. Feeling rather incredulous over that answer, I actually asked "Are you telling me there is no one, in the entire corporate structure of AT&T, who can tell me when they're going to allow it to be released, and was told "That's correct". REALLY?

When I told them I would have to consider switching carriers and going to someone who COULD support release it, they even offered to talk to billing to eliminate any penalties associated with my doing so. REALLY???

AT&T is obviously willing to sacrifice customers, or at the very least their customers good will rather than be straight with them.

This is much the same as when I bought my first iPhone through them over two years ago. A major selling point for me at the time was that the device be able to tether to my laptop. "Well, it doesn't now, but with the new software release coming out next month it WILL be". Two and a half years later my iPhone still doesn't tether (UNLESS I'm willing to drop my unlimited data plan) and now they're doing the same thing with the FROYO release.

Once again AT&T has decided to put the screws to their customers and has lied to us all.

    • All you need to do is root the phone and put a wifi hotspot program on it, then you can use the phone as a wireless router. I too have the unlimited plan and refuse to drop to 2gig plan and pay $45 a month for 2gig w/tethering.

  8. AT&T is doing this as a batch release. This is being done to help prevent the servers from being frozen it IS CONFIRMED through Dell as well as AT&T. Upgrades WILL be in progress through the end of the week at the latest Sunday the 23rd. AGAIN IT IS CONFIRMED.

  9. It is the 18th of January, I did not see or hear anything about AT&T streak Update!!! I have two more weeks to return my phone and I am thinking about it. this is a dirty game from AT&T to make more sales/money as usual.

  10. Is this true? Someone got the update? Can you please confirm. I called AT&T today and they had no clue about a streak or Froyo update

  11. Just spoke to Dell rep. They ask for ma tag# the rep. Said that the update is being push out in batches and I should be receiving it b/w now and next week sad but true

  12. Fuck Dell and AT&T there we are jan 12 jan 13 and still no update even after they promise if don’t get my update by jan 14 i’m taking the phone back and i’ll never buy Dell again and will cancell my contract with at&t these two moron conpanys deserve each other Dell is an ediot for fucking the streak release and att is a moron for not releasing the update

  13. As of yesterday "So, I been researching all the internet all day! I found the following links that confirm that the update to Froyo 2.2 is being done today and untill the end of the week! I actually talked to a Dell rep. @800-308-3355 and she confirmed the update."
but, untill now, I do not have any confirmation of any update being done!!! what a scam!

  14. I certainly hope after you do the update all your apps still work.
When I did the update on my Evo several apps no longer worked.
Iheartradio and the Sirius app no longer worked and to this day the Sirius app is not in the Market. Sirius emailed an update link to me. Everything else now works but it was about 2 months before the phone worked right.
I never did see much improvement other than I had a flashlight and a light for the cam. That's why I am not getting all worked up over Gingerbread. I'm sure I'll update and then things will stop working. The goods news is that eventually the app developers fix everything.
