Call of Duty: Black Ops has proven to be a massive success for numbers of copies shifted since it was launched earlier in the week. The latest game in the franchise managed to sell a massive 1.4 million copies on its first day on sale in the United Kingdom.
Black Ops has seen the biggest first day sales figures in the UK ever, and sold 14% more copies than Modern Warfare 2 managed on its first day of sales. Compare this to some other titles like Bandai’s Enslaved, which has managed only 800,000 copies sold worldwide. Fable III which is only available on the Xbox 360 shifted 129,000 copies in its first week.
Revenues of £58 million have been raised according to figures released by UKIE/GfK Chart-Track. According to Activision the game had the biggest entertainment launch in both the US and UK, with 5.6 million copies shifted and $360 million generated. Another big hit of this year was Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption which sold 6.9 million copies worldwide in its first three months of sales.
