New Macbook Air: List of Problems after Release?

By Alan Ng - Nov 3, 2010

Following on from the recent release of Apple’s new Macbook Air models, we are hearing reports that some users are experiencing some notable problems with their computers during usage.

According to this report from Apple Insider, user messages are now starting to mount up on the official Apple support boards, all of which are related to the company’s new 11-inch and 13-inch late 2010 Macbook Air models.

Problems listed include faulty logic boards, flickering display screens, kernal issues and even some reports of systems freezing up. It is important to note that Apple has already released a patch update for the new models shortly after release, but users are still complaining that their problems have not been solved.

Apple has yet to officially respond to the claims, but if they start becoming more apparent, then it is only a matter of time until they are forced to release another patch.

First of all, can any of you confirm that the problems listed above are happening on your new Macbook Air? This could help to determine whether this is a problem affecting all new Macbook Air models, or just an isolated issue affecting a small minority.

We’ll update you if we hear from Apple.

I tried twice to use Migration Assistant to transfer my data from my old MacBook to my new MacBook Air 11" and I get no result whatsoever. It takes over 10 hours to finish and then nothing gets transfered.

I can't watch anything on YouTube as it asks to download Flash Adobe, and then this too does not function.

Got my newest MacBook Air 2.13GHz, 4GB Ram and 256Gb SDD few days before new year. Worked for about a week and then it went bust. Does not power up at all. Completely dead!!!! It is with Apple service center in UAE for repairs. Is mine a lemon or is this a real problem with these new MacBooks Air?

I just got my Macbook Air today and I got it to run for an hour, installed Perian for Quicktime, iWork 09, Microsoft Office 2011.

This time it's about 44 minutes till the battery is drained then I plugged in the magsafe adapter. Then I installed Adobe CS5 and all is fine. Now midway along the installation – all of a sudden my MBA went black with a small 'pop' sound (it seems like a mini-explosion to me) near the magsafe connector area inside the laptop.

Now I can't get the thing to turn on. I've been tinkering with it for hours already with no luck at all. I've tried everything I found on the forums (resetting the PRAM, NVRAM and SMC) – nothing worked.

This is my first time buying a Mac and boy what a horrible experience this is. ='(

MacBook Air 11" w/1.6GHz, 4GB RAM, 128 SSD which is about two-weeks old has been flawless since day one. I had to order it online since they didn't have that configuration at the local Apple stores.
