HTC Hero and Desire: Android Eclair and Froyo Updates on TELUS

By Alan Ng - Oct 27, 2010

We have some great news for HTC Hero and HTC Desire owners on TELUS now, as the Canadian carrier has pushed out Android updates to both devices, they are available to download now.

As reported from Phandroid, we’re guessing that HTC Hero owners will be the happier of the two, as your handset will now reap the benefits of Android 2.1 Eclair, no longer will you have to hide your phone away in embarrasment.

As for Desire owners on TELUS, you’ll be equally as pleased to hear that an update to Android 2.2 Froyo is now available to download.

You can get the HTC Hero update on the official support page here, while the HTC Desire Froyo will now be rolling out OTA. If you have already received either update, let us know how your handset is shaping up after installation.

I also called TELUS support and they indicated the same thing, except for one difference. The rep I talked to said the Google has held back the release until all the bugs are fixed. Strange since it's actually been out there for quite some time via other means.

According to a telus rep I spoke with, the desire update has been delayed according to information they were given yesterday (oct 26). Whether it was simply this rep being misinformed I cannot say, they simply told me to as htc about it. However I e-mailed htc weeks ago and they said the phone companies have had the update for months. Hate getting the run around this much…please if anyone has received the update or txts about the update from telus let us know.
