Verizon iPad Coming – Kind Of

By Peter Chubb - Oct 14, 2010

When we say that the iPad is coming to Verizon Wireless that is only half true. The actual deal with Apple is that Big Red stores is to begin stocking the tablet device from October 28th, but Wi-Fi models only. This is not the news that we have been waiting for, but it is seen as a major step forward for the two companies.

Vlad Savov from Engadget explains that Verizon will offer the iPad as a bundle; so will come with their MiFi 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot, doing away with the need for a 3G version. Prices will be $630 for the 16GB, $730 for the 32GB and $830 for the 64GB model.

Those who want to be able to have an iPad that can access the VZW network will have to pay $20 per month in a non-contract arrangement; this will give you just 1GB of data allowance. This is the only plan for now, but there are hopes for more at a later date.

This is still not as good as the AT&T Wi-Fi 3G version, as these do not require a bundled MiFi package to access the Internet anywhere. Will you be getting an iPad from Verizon, or do you think that the partnership is pointless?
