World of Warcraft: Subscribers Reach 12million Mark; Cataclysm Anticipation

By Jamie Pert - Oct 11, 2010

If you are a veteran WoW player, from vanilla to the Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King, you’ll undoubtedly know that the player base has far exceeded anything Blizzard imagined and proved this today by releasing a statement announcing that they had reached over 12 million subscribers.

World of Warcraft is still one of, if not the most popular MMORPG’s currently available on the market, and is about to get even more popular with the release of the third expansion in the series – Cataclysm.

Blizzard Entertainment largely credit the success of Wrath of the Lich King for its latest surge in players plus the fact that the game can now be bought in China, and on top of that the ever increasing anticipation for Cataclysm due for release on December 7.

CEO and company founder Michael Morhaime released a statement that said:

“The support and enthusiasm that gamers across the world continue to show for World of Warcraft reaffirms our belief that it offers one of the best entertainment values available today. We are as committed as ever to taking the game to new heights, and we look forward to demonstrating that with Cataclysm in December.”

With the release of Cataclysm just around the corner, will it keep you playing again for however long it takes you to destroy Deathwing? Are you a resubscriber or is Cataclysm a step back from what you were expecting? Emerald Dream maybe? Let us know your thoughts on Cataclysm below.
