BlackBerry Playbook Tablet: 10 Reasons Why it Won’t Sell

By Alan Ng - Sep 30, 2010

We have told you our impressions of the RIM BlackBerry Playbook, but now we have an article to show you which states 10 reasons why the recently announced device isn’t a good idea.

The article in question comes from eWeek, as they believe that RIM’s tablet may struggle to compete with the likes of the Apple iPad, which is clearly ahead of the rest in the tablet department.

They think that RIM’s decision to include a 7-inch display for the Playbook is suspect, adding that most consumers have accepted the fact that the 9.7-inch size of the iPad is ideal – Do you agree?

Furthermore, they have also criticized RIM’s marketing strategy for the device, and said that the missing 3G feature is a big issue. Then of course they will have to compete with the Apple App store for software, that in itself could be a big problem for RIM.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you agree with the early criticism of the Playbook or not? Check out the full article over at eWeek.

after all the research i am very impressed and CANT WAIT to buy one, but if theres no 3g/4g future then it is a very disappointment. I wanna use it every where. also agree with LWB.

Would def buy however you would need to keep the price under ipad at least $100 (16GB $399; 32GB $499 & 64GB $599).

    HTML5 and Flash FTW

i like the 9.7 size and dimensions. if apple could add flash, a camera, printing capability, i would be all over it. otherwise, the rim and samsung pads sound promising, but the size and dimensions suck. i would go w/rim out of all three. and when rim brings out the new bb's w/qnx, i would go with a bb. current bb's suck. 2011 can't come soon enough.

You forgot the biggest reason. They don't even have a working model yet. The BlackBerry PlayBook doesn't really exist. The CEO of BlackBerry is found to be holding a piece of plastic on stage.

The only device that will knock the iPad of it’s pedestal is one with everything the iPad has with addition of flash. There is a mobile samsung phone coming out soon that will have flash so everyone may want to worry about Samsung putting out a device that will trump both of these.

I myself as a technologist do not care for the 9.7" iPad. I would prefer it to be 5-7". Secondly, i do not want to get a addition data plan. I think this is a great move on the behalf of RIM. I think this is where Apple is missing the boat. Apple is selling way more wifi ipads than they are 3g iPad. People are hoping and praying that apple will enable tethering for the wifi iPad.

How can you critique or criticize something before you personally use it?
BB specs appear to be competitive…
