Apple iPhone 5: If You Had 5 Wishes, What Would They Be?

By Jamie Pert - Sep 28, 2010

We all know that the iPhone 4 is still a fairly new device, and some would even say is way ahead of the competition. It is coming up to 2012, and a new year means fresh speculation of a new iPhone, and with that speculation comes rumors, ideas, dreams and wishes for the next-gen Apple device. Five of which, we have listed below. Let’s get started shall we?

“Beam me up, Scotty!” – No, we don’t want the iPhone to give us time travel and teleportation functionality (although that would be cool, wouldn’t it?), but something a little more realistic. Voice and speech recognition already exists, but could that be expanded on to the iPhone of the future? Dictated MMS, email, text and SMS messages would be a breeze. Imagine asking your phone to plot maps or even use it to translate your home language into French, German or any other tongue.

“Sell not virtue to purchase wealth, nor Liberty to purchase power” – As once said by Benjamin Franklin, quite literally meaning “Those who sacrifice freedom for security deserve neither.” Now we know the iPhone 4 has been jailbroken numerous times, but maybe if Apple opened up the phone and gave it more freedom, hackers wouldn’t go to these lengths. If they could find a happy medium with security that holds PIN numbers, passwords and sensitive information along with a slight bit of freedom, I think they would hit the nail on the head.

“You pull his tail in New York and his head Is meowing in Los Angeles. Wireless is the same, only without the cat” – While referring to wireless telegraph and ordinary telegraph, Albert Einstien saw the need for a life without wires to communicate. We are halfway there, but Apple seem to miss the point of this when it comes to iTunes and syncing. Long have we pleaded for us to wirelessly sync on the cloud without having to connect our device to our Mac or PC using a wire. This would be one of the very few features that I think Apple should really push in a future release. Apple have stated in the past that it will eventually come, but with nothing else to go on, it could be a while before we even see it. Hopefully iPhone 5 will change that.

“Shredder? Are you there? Where have you been, Shredder?” – Famously said by Krang in the TMNT cartoons way back when, but even then they were communicating by using palm sized video devices. Facetime is another one of Apple’s babies that have shown the developments in technology, but up until this point we can only use it on WiFi enabled networks (unless you have seen the workaround). 4G networks should not be that far away for U.S. readers, and with it we expect the iPhone 5 to embrace it along with allowing Facetime to be used over these networks instead of limiting it to WiFi.

“If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything” – The iPhone surely is a thing of beauty, an icon, an extraordinary device when we compare it to the past flux of mobile phones that came out at the turn of the century, but thats not to say they haven’t had their own set of teething problems, more noticeably — the iPhone 4. We won’t go through all the problems *cough* antenna-gate *cough*, but we just want the next iPhone to simply work. Iron out problems before releasing, quality is the most important factor here, and this is something that Apple always deliver, but maybe just a little more care and testing is needed before you get a flurry of thousands of iPhone users complaing that they can’t get signal because of the way they hold a phone. Marty McFly believed that if we go for something hard enough, we can achieve it, and this is the premise that they should follow.

That about rounds up what I would like to see in the future iPhone 5 model, but what is it that YOU want in the next model? Post your comments and suggestions below and see if it marries up with what everyone else is expecting.
