Crysis 2 on PS3: Better in 3D than 2D say Developers

By Alan Ng - Sep 26, 2010

We have an interesting article for those of you who are still not impressed by 3D Stereoscopic visuals on games, as Crytek, developer of upcoming game Crysis 2 has said that playing the game in 3D will offer a more enjoyable experience than 2D.

As reported from Eurogamer, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli was speaking in a recent interview with GamaSutra when he revealed the news. In case you didn’t know, Crysis 2 will be taking full advantage of the PS3’s 3D capabilities, with the developers behind the game keen to give their backing to the new technology.

Here is a portion of Yerli’s interview: ”If you play Crysis 2 in 2D on a normal TV, you will have a lot of fun, but if you buy a 3D TV, you will have even more. I want our games to be one of the first games out there to show how 3D could be and what it means for first-person gaming.”

He went to say how 3D gaming is ‘inevitable’ and if you don’t like it now, you’ll come round to the idea later on when it becomes more widespread. At the moment, it is fair enough if you don’t like the idea of 3D, especially since there are hardly any 3D games to play anyway, but 2011 will be a different story, with the majority of PS3 games coming with added 3D support.

Of course, it also means that Killzone 3 and Crysis 2 will not only be going head-to-head in the FPS stakes on PS3, but in the 3D department too. Check out the full interview through the link and let us know your thoughts on this.

I had this problem when the demo first came out. Is the 3d option grayed out? I believe I changed the console video output to 1080p or 720p(can't remember which). Or if using a Xbox u have to manually adjust the 3d option on the 3dtv settings from automatic to "side by side". Good luck and enjoy b/c the 3d on Crysis is absolutely gorgeous!

Does any one know why the crysis 2 3d option in the game menu says you must have a hdmi 1.4 tv to support the stereoscopic 3d settings in order for it to work. I have a panasonic gt25 50 inch plasma with a audioquest chocolate 600hrtz 3d hdmi cable. However the game will not play in 3d. Does any one know why or how I can fix this????? Thanks

Are you playing on ps3? 360? pc? If it's ps3, First off you need to have your ps3 configured for 3D before you start playing crysis 2. If you have not done this yet, go to display settings and in HDMI output select AUTOMATIC. You will see a 3d confirmation screen and the settings will be saved. If you don't see the 3d confirmation screen, something is interfering with the 3d signal that goes from the console to your TV. If successful, Then, run crysis 2, and before selecting campaign, go to settings and enable 3d. You can not change between 2d and 3d modes once the campaign has already started. Hope this helps.

  • The 3rd Crytech engine must be super optimized. They say that people who could run the original crysis, could play crysis 2, and me and my little budget gaming laptop will do just that. Prob min settings, but on a damn laptop, who cares. Last time i ran Warhead on medium settings.

i will jump on 3d train when there will be affordable 3D Home Projectors… to enjoy the full potential of 3D you need a screen as big as possible. TV should be aound 63inch starting but the price tag is just ridicolous.

I wonder how they managed to make the crytech engine run on the ps3 in 3d without cutting the framerate in half, or the resolution in half. When a couple of years ago they were saying that consoles can't run cryengine in 2D.

For $450 sells asus 1080p 23 inch lcd for the pc (with 3d eye glasses kit by Nvidia) but. You need a compatible graphics card by Nvidia though ( the gtx 460 are about $200 now for the 1gig, and $160 for the 756mb one) so its kind of cheaper to get a pc.

Asus is launching a 27 inch 3d lcd soon.

I would buy a 3D tv if they were not £2,000 for a decent one.

The PC will have the superior experience. With rumors of directx 11 support and up to 8 cores of usage for cryengine 3 the visuals will be raised once more by Crytek. So now gamers can experience the same level of detail and play it in 3d with no perfomance drop and visual dilution to experience smooth gameplay, this is sick.

Most gamers see 3d as a gimmick so this hopefuly changes their perception.

It's one of the obvious facts about differences of 2D and 3D and i can't see anything WOW!!!
In fact the recent 3D update released for PS3 turned out disaster and dropped HD audio.
well as Microsoft executives said before Consumer Electronic Companies that trying to sell 3D TV's will concentrate on this and Game "Only" companies will wait to see how consumers respond and if market has potential it's worth to invest.

…Cheers from Germany to all Xbox owners.

How is it a disaster? Maybe for audiophiles who need super good sound hen watching movies.
