RIM BlackBerry Tablet: iPad Rival Unveiling Update

Apple has certainly dominated the tablet industry with the iPad, but other computer/cell phone makers only have themselves to blame. The iPad has been with us now for nine months, and only now are we seeing any signs of rivals offering details on when they will release what they hope will take the fight to Apple. One of those companies is RIM with their BlackBerry tablet device.

According to Phred Dvorak And Ting-I Tsai from WSJ, Research In Motion could unveil their tablet as early as next week. We do not have any idea what RIM will call the upcoming tab – many believe it to be the BlackPad, but WSJ believes that this could limit them to just one color version – black.

We do know that the new device will come with a 7-inch screen – the same size as Samsung’s Galaxy Tab. There is still confusion about the camera configuration – will it have just one or a front-facing camera as well? One would presume that RIM would offer a front-facing camera, as this would certainly appeal to corporate users, which as we know is the main market for the company.

As for the OS, it had been assumed that the tablet would run on the new BlackBerry OS, but we recently learned that RIM decided to opt for a new mobile OS platform, which is being developed by QNX Software Systems.

We have speculated enough, now it is time to wait and see what RIM unveils. Will the upcoming BlackBerry tablet be able to compete with Apple’s iPad?
