New Apple TV Announcement: Amazon’s Plan Before Media Event

The rumors have really mounted up about Apple’s media event today, which may see a new Apple TV (iTV) announcement, and the most popular rumor is a new iPod touch 4. You can read a round up of these rumors here, or get details on live blogs covering the media event via this article.

We looked at Google’s Pay Per View (PPV) movie plans yesterday, which saw them expanding on the free movie downloads via YouTube, this time with a paid option for new movie releases. Google wants to have a share of the success that Apple has had with their IPTV device.

It’s not only Google that wants to enter this market full on, ahead of a possible new Apple TV announcement, The Washington Post says that Amazon is planning a movie and TV Web service.

In their article, WP explains that Amazon has started discussions with Time Warner Inc. and other media companies. The service would cost a set monthly fee and will only display TV Shows and old movies at the start, although we are not sure if this would be expanded.

One analyst from Barclays Capital, Douglas Anmuth, said that this move in the direction of subscription content could affect “earnings capability”, and it’s his view that Amazon is “overweight.”
