Motorola DEFY: Rugged Android Smartphones Specs & Release Info

By Jamie Pert - Sep 1, 2010

Modern smartphones are getting better and better every month, however the only problem with these shiny handsets is they are not great in a rough environment, Motorola hope to change this with the Motorola DEFY.

Spec wise it is pretty impressive, it is not as great as the Droid X or Droid 2, however still pretty good. It features a 3.7 inch touchscreen display which supports a resolution of 480 x 854, this is protected by Gorilla Glass. There is also a 5 megapixel camera and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

It will run Android 2.1 as standard, however an update for FroYo is expected in the future. The OS should be pretty snappy thanks to its 800MHz Texas Instruments OMAP 3610 processor and its 512MB of RAM.

In terms of connectivity there is WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, dual band (900/2100 MHz) 7.2 Mbps HSPA and quadband GSM/EDGE.

Where this device differs from most smartphones is in its ruggedness, it’s dust-proof, scratch-proof, impact-resistant and water-resistant, which will no doubt appeal to clumsier of our readers.
