Droid Incredible: Android 2.2 Froyo – Download Manual Update Now

By Alan Ng - Sep 1, 2010

Following on from our report yesterday, which gave you an official deadline for Verizon’s rollout of Android 2.2 Froyo for the Droid Incredible, you’ll be pleased to know that the same update is now available to download manually.

As reported from Droid-Life, the official zip file from Google has been located online, and it is now available to download as you please. It is worth noting that this update is only available on the stock Droid Incredible, so for those of you who have rooted, you’ll just have to wait around for another alternative.

If you are bored of waiting for the OTA notification from Verizon, you can try the manual download here. Head over to Droid-Life for a full set of instuctions on how to install Froyo on your Incredible.

Can any of you confirm that the manual method works?

Downloaded new software. Now telling me I am low on space but have plenty of space on phone and card and cant download any apps now. Any answers.

Will, you might need to rename the file "update" and make sure it stays a .zip file. then boot from it.

I have tried 3 diff. sd cards and still get that same message….ughhh
I even went to verizon, the kid downloaded the update from here and it gave the same message=((( He said I have to wait for the OTA

  • Will

i have the official 2.1 and i tried this step by step, and it doesnt work… it keeps saying right below (verifying update package…)

E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (no such file or directory)
    E:signature verification failed
    installation aborted

and after i get that message it does nothing and just keep getting that blue menu on top over and over….what can i do???

    • Dave

you might not have the zip file posted to your sdcard but instead to your phones internal memory?

    • eric

I get the exact same message

  • samael

Does anyone know how long it takes to do the OTA without wi fi. All the ppl posting have done it over wi fi. Wanted to know about 3g ?

  • tj

Yes I am using it, still trying to get used to it. Have not noticed the speed they were talking about just yet still seems to be same phone. Don’t know maybe I should not have been so excited. U can move the programs to SD card and I had a program that checked for froyo it said no before the update and yes after. We’ll see how it goes but if u can’t wait yes it does work.
