By Alan Ng - Aug 27, 2010

Following on from our report which informed you about a new leaked firmware build for the HTC Droid Incredible, we can confirm that Verizon has finally answered everyone’s calls, with a release date for the official OTA update to Android 2.2 Froyo.

As reported from BGR, we can tell you that the update will be going live on all HTC Droid Incredible handsets tomorrow, August 27th.

Verizon has posted a detailed support page on their website, with information on the update and the main features that Android 2.2 Froyo brings to the table.

In case you need a refresh, they’ll be Adobe Flash 10.1 player, 3G Mobile Hotspot support, 720p Video Recording capabilities, improved battery life and tons more – view the full list of changes here.

To all those that installed the new firmware update yesterday, it seems that you will not need to install the official version too, as both are basically the same.

I just spoke to a Verizon Wireless Customer Service Rep and was told that it is official, FROYO is out and is being release in batches depending on the last digits of your ESN. So, it you have an ESN that ends on 1 you should have it by now, if you have an ESN that ends on a 9, keep waiting.

ho-hum. another date flys by. i can google almost any random date and that's the alleged release date. i'll believe it when i see it.

We've only received one other minor update and for me it rolled out during the night and it was waiting for me in the morning. I'm not saying that they always roll out during the night, that's just when it hit my phone. But they roll out the updates ~10,000 or so at a time so it's not to taxing on the network and so the support group doesn't receive 1,000,000 calls simultaneously. You just have to be patient. It is a mandatory update so it's not like they're trying to be stingy with it. They're just trying to do it in a "orderly like fashion". There is no way to force it to update either.

Verizon is only updating about 200,000 phones a day according to a Verizon Rep I visited today, they are doing this in case there are any problems with the upgrades, there won't be a mass rescind.

  • Haven't gotten anything yet either. A friend who has the original Droid suggested to keep powering down/up throughout the day.

what time do they usually send out ota updates?

  • QuadFather

I'll believe it when people actually report receiving it.

  • Wes

I've got nothing as of yet

It's more encouraging than the other things we've seen so far, where there was no website activity on Verizon's part. I'll give this half credibility and we'll see. 😉
