HTC Droid Incredible: Android 2.2 Froyo -Verizon Release Date Revealed?

We have some good news for HTC Droid Incredible owners now, as just as you were getting worried about the lack of news regarding the Froyo update for your handset, we have just been informed of a potential release date for the new software.

As reported from Engadget, insider information has come courtesy of Mashable, who have gone on record to say that Froyo will be landing on the Droid Incredible on August 18th – this coming Wednesday.

As most of you will be aware, the Droid X, Droid 2 and even the original Droid are already running Froyo, so it is perfect timing for Incredible owners who have been getting impatient.

Engadget mention that Verizon will be rolling out the update via OTA to customers on the 18th, so make sure you look out for the notification next week. Let us know your thoughts on this.

Shut up, the update will come out when it comes out. Why is that everyone thinks Verizon is such a bad company? They will release the update when it works correctly. Look at the droid 1 it has all kinds of issues cause people weren’t patient. Everyone is so self righteous that they think oh Verizon is bad or google is bad cause the update isn’t available immediately. Jesus it is pathetic, I can wait a couple months with my already amazing incredible that runs fantastic. Google has changed everything and people are just getting too damn greedy. Have some patience.

I agree Mike. Just because we don’t have it yet doesn’t mean it isn’t coming. And personally, I would rather have a fully functioning older version than a newer version full of bugs. Verizon is doing all they can to provide the best products and services they can. If that isn’t what you are looking for then by all means change providers.

On August 18, I spoke with HTC who informed me that 2.2 had been released to Verizon and was rolling out a week prior. That same date Verizon tech support confirmed that they had received it, but were still testing it and anticipated a rolling out within 2 weeks. These are not rumors. I spoke with tech support at both HTC and Verizon

Nothing so far, and it's now the 19th. Guess it was a bad source.

How do I set my phone up to let me know about the update in my notification bar

  • Johan Von Kenser

I have the DX got it the day it came out the following week received froyo it is amazing on DX

  • kg

froyo hasn’t been released on droix x, wtf is he talkin about

  • Mike

I've had my Droid X less than a week and it is not running Froyo!

  • Frank

I have the original Motorola Droid and have been waiting for the update since August 11th when some people started getting it and I still haven't gotten the 2.2 Froyo update

  • Yeh, umm…everything I've read (admittedly could be more) indicated that the Froyo release date for DX was pushed back to early/mid September. I understand that the update can be installed prior, but more so for ubers than regulars. Also, I thought I understood that the Flash install would be separate if done uber-style. Anyway, further insight would be helpful, thanks in advance.

My Droid isn't running Froyo as of 8/15 11:20AM EST.

I keep on wanting to upgrade from the download that's available, but then I heard about the possible virus that was downloaded to a Droid and I figured I should be patient and get it OTA from Verizon.

A million bottles of beer on the wall, a million bottles of beer, if one of them should happen to fall, nine hundred and ninety-nine thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine bottles of beer on the wall. Nine hundred and ninety-nine thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine bottles of beer on the wall……….

Hopefully it will happen before I get to my last beer.

I bought my Sprint Evo 4G phone the day it came out. It came with the 2.1 firmware. I too waited with great anticipation for this wonderful Froyo 2.2 update. I installed it the day it was released by Sprint/HTC and did an over the air upgrade. It has a flashlight, an upgrade in the camera department, and claims to make the Internet faster. The downside is some of the 3rd party apps that were installed from the Android app store no longer work. Because of this apps like Sirius radio no longer work. iheartradio does not work unless I turn on WI-FI even though I am not hitting a router. Go search the Android app store for Sirius radio and you will find it's gone! The purpose of this post is to warn people if you like your phone and use the apps do yourself a favor and do not install the new 2.2 update until they get the bugs worked out. I have spent hours on the phone with Sprint and HTC and they either point the finger at each other or blame the creature of the app. Bottom line, if you are happy with your phone and want to use it like you have for however long you have had it be very cautious about installing this upgrade. Once you upgrade there is no way to go back to 2.1. I thought Froyo 2.2 would take me to the next level. If only I knew what I just told you 2 weeks ago I would have NEVER upgraded!!!!!!

Really A… thanks for the love… There was nothing wrong with that post ! ooh ya and "perfect time for what" ??? 1st we wait an extra month to get the HTC Droid Incredible instead of the HTC Droid 1, because u know that design of that keyboard is impossible to use ex-specially the top row of keys and now we are the last in the Droid Family to get froyo.

I was just trying to make a real comment about verizon and there lag time on this whole matter…What happened to freedom of speech? It was clean and i thought pretty tasteful.
    Sincerely, Frits

P.S. i can't wait to hear your next commercial, hope its better then your articles

  • Frits

Why the frits is froyo being offered for the Droid X Droid 2 and even the original HTC Droid already but thoughs of us that have the HTC Droid Incredible have to wait ? I mean how Incredible is that!!!

  • Whip

Droid X isn’t running Froyo…not officially, that is.

Next week will be an exciting one for the rom developers and enthusiasts alike. Can’t wait!
