Motorola Droid 2 Price at Best Buy: Locked or unlocked

By Peter Chubb - Aug 9, 2010

We recently reported that Best Buy had taken shipment of mockup versions of the new Motorola Droid 2; we can now tell you that the retail chain has now unveiled the price for these Verizon handsets as well. The price will be $199 and $599 for locked and unlocked versions respectively.

We still await official conformation of its release date, but the smart money is on August 12th. One thing is certain though, the Droid 2 looks set to sell out very quickly – so you had better get your pre-order in early. If Big Red does release its latest Android smartphone in the next few days, then we would expect the carrier to make some sort of announcement today.

Looking at the image on Sean Hollister’s article on Engadget I can see that the Best Buy shop label shows that it will come with Android 2.2, and you can pay an extra $9.99 per month for their protection plan.

There have been two updates to the article, the first it that the original Droid is now out of stock (read Droid Life article) and the other is that a newspaper supplement is now advertising the Droid 2 – saying “Coming Soon.”
