New MacBook Air 2010: Apple’s new netbook?

By Peter Chubb - Jul 16, 2010

The Apple MacBook Air has been around for a few years now and in that time has only seen one update – so is now overdue for another. The design is ultra-slim, but with its price and noisy fan when running hot – has seemed to put potential buyers off.

There have been a number of rumors pointing to an update, but we were shocked to learn that the new MacBook Air for 2010 will be a smaller form-factor version. According to DigiTimes, Apple is working on an 11.6-inch version – meaning that this could be the elusive Apple netbook.

If rumors are to be believed, then this new model will use an Intel Core i-series processor, which as you know uses much less power than the current CPU. If the new MacBook Air goes ahead, then it will not only be thinner but lighter too.

We were certainly shocked to here this latest rumor on the ultra-slim Mac, we had assumed that Apple might discontinue the MacBook Air – instead concentrating all its efforts on the iPad. Let us not forget that we have heard rumors of a new MacBook Air before – so what makes this one any different?

I have been waiting all year for the new release as I travel frequently and like the portability of the Macbook Air. However a 11" screen, sounds like the ultraportable netbook for school kids not something you do business on.
