China Bans Xbox 360 Kinect: Promoting Piracy?

By Alan Ng - Jul 13, 2010

We have some surprising (or unsurprising) news to deliver to you now, as it has been confirmed that Microsoft’s upcoming motion software Kinect, will be banned from sale in China. Something is seriously going wrong over there isn’t it?

As reported from Examiner, you may not know it but the Xbox 360 is also banned over there, but that doesn’t stop tons of gamers from getting the 360 hardware and software via ‘other’ means.

According to their report, Microsoft China COO Michel Van Der Be has reiterated that the ban by China’s Ministry of Culture issued in 2000 still stands, meaning that gamers over in China will not be able to sample the fruits of Microsoft’s latest toy.

I’m not sure about you, but doesn’t that send a big fat message to gamers, urging them to get Kinect shipped into China via other means? It seems a bit outrageous that their government insists on banning the console.

Microsoft are willing to stand by China’s decision on this – We want your thoughts.
