Samsung Epic 4G: Unlimited Sprint Wimax

By Peter Chubb - Jun 28, 2010

We mentioned to you this morning that the Samsung Epic 4G is the new name for the Galaxy S and will be the second 4G smartphone on Sprint, the first thing we thought we would do was compare it to the HTC EVO 4G – well that was the obvious thing to do.

Matt Hamblen from Computerworld We have since learned that Sprint is to offer Samsung Epic owner’s unlimited use to the Wimax 4G network for an unspecified amount of time, all for one-low monthly cost. Sprint hopes that by doing this will help to steal customers away from AT&T and Verizon.

The Samsung Epic is just like the HTC EVO where it is able to not only work on the 4G network, but also the 3G data network as well. Currently only 30 cities in the U.S. has access to the 4G data network, but Sprint and Wimax has been working hard to increase that number.

We are not certain when the HTC EVO 4G will get its company, but we know that it will come with Android 2.1, with Google expected to offer 2.2 Froyo update shortly after the Epic is released.
