Droid X: Android 2.2 Froyo Update – Release Date Details

Following on from our earlier post, which gave you official details regarding the Motorola Droid X handset, we now have some information on the future update to Android 2.2 Froyo.

Many of you might have been surprised to hear that the Droid X won’t be coming with Android 2.2 out of the box, but Google and Motorola were quick to reassure fans that Froyo will be pushed out to the handset as soon as possible.

They have confirmed that the update will be available sometime later this Summer, but failed to give an exact release date for the Droid X. Google’s Andy Rubin had this to say on Froyo: “We just open-sourced it today. That’s when everybody says, ‘Go!’. That just happened today.”

Does this mean that Froyo will be available on the Droid X sometime in August? – we really hope so. Let us know your thoughts on this – Are you disappointed or not?

Screw Motorola and screw Android, i for one am sick and tired of "we are going to release it, just not sure when, but wait you will get it eventually" and then they relase new phones, Bullcrap Motorola is out to make money and new phoe they keep releasing every 4 months or so and leave previous model owners in the shitter. I am going to buy an iPhone 4 later!

The only positive about having to wait for 2.2 and flash 10.1 is tha it gives new users of the Android OS the opportunity to learn the system inside out. Then when the phone is upgraded there will only be a few new things to master.

To echo Knob, where are the "release date details"? This is a waste of web space.

With out android 2.2 you can’t get the flash player to watch 90% of the videos. You can’t play the games on facebook either.

Somehow, the droid x vs iphone 4 got a matchup already. And the results are just what you expected.

  • I have already been sense a minor heat this early morning from several folks not desiring to believe that the Droid X inventory will be confined on release day, as we reported before. Well we have just snapped up 5 extra screenshots from 5 fairly significant markets and I’d say once more in which inventory appears to end up being quite minimal to me. Some of the major suppliers get up-wards of sixty devices, but some may only have got a few units. Now possibly these quantities tend to be over common for a Verizon wireless launch, but for a gadget this large, I think I simply just figured retailers would have tried to have already been overstocked.

  • I officially can’t delay for this phone, only 2 days left and I just wish I can get my hands on one,. I have been recently reading a lot about the Android 2.2 update that can come in August, just another motive to be excited about this fantastic phone. Motorola and Verizon wireless claim they will update the phone to Android 2.2 “late summer time.” It will be an over-the-air update. However out-of-the box on its July 15 launch it will have Android 2.1.

Worked for us! Lol. Back to you Tom.

Why don’t they stop talking about it and just release Froyo when its complete. “Soon” wont satisfy their consumers or complainers.

  • That's not "release details" is it? That's "get people to my blog details."
