New iPhone 4 Battery Life: Compared to 3GS

Back in 2007 we thought that we were staring at the best device Apple had ever launched, three years down the line it looks as though they have pulled that feat off again with the announcement of the iPhone 4. The thing that we want to know most is how the battery performs compares to that of the 3GS, which as we know is shocking.

So let us compare the battery times of the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 3GS. Firstly and most importantly is the talk time, we have 7 hours for the new version of the smartphone and 5 hours for the 3GS, that’s if you are on 3G. That time will be 14 hours and 12 hours respectively on 2G.

Standby time has not changed, 300 hours for both, although I have never had mine on standby that long to test that figure. Let us now look at Internet usages times for the battery on both handsets.

The iPhone 4 offers 6 hours on 3G and 10 hours on Wi-Fi, the 3GS is 5 hours and 9 hours – so just 1-hour difference. Let us finally have a look at audio and video playback; we have 40 hours and 10 hours for the iPhone 4 and 20 hours and 10 hours for the 3GS.

Looking at these times, Apple has done very well with the battery considering that the processor is more powerful and offers better display quality.
