Motorola Droid: Android 2.2 Froyo Update before Desire?

We have some good news for Motorola Droid owners now, as Motorola has issued a statement regarding the pending update to Google’s latest version (Android 2.2 Froyo) of their operating system.

As reported from Phandroid, Motorola has confirmed that the Droid will be receiving the update to Froyo, but revealed that this will come ‘in the near future’.

Here is a portion of their official statement regarding the update: ”We do expect DROID by Motorola users will receive Android 2.2 as a software upgrade in the near future.”

The news comes straight after a HTC rep let slip that the HTC Desire would be receiving the update to 2.2 Froyo on June 23rd. That is obviously still over a month away, so do you think the update on the Motorola Droid will happen first?

It is hard to interpret what ‘in the near future’ really means, especially when an Android update is mentioned. Let us know your thoughts on the news.

Let us not forget the droid 2.1 update saga….

  • won't count on the 23rd June release, look what HRC did to Hero (non-sprint), until now the update remained as rumor, and it's been like months.

Yes the "near future” is not really defined here. Still I think if it was very soon like may be in a week or 2, "near future" was not the most appropriate choice of words. Also keeping in mind that HTC Desire will get expected after 4 weeks and if they were certain about an update before the HTC one, they would have mentioned it to score some points. So, I assume that the "near future" will be roughly around 4-6 weeks. Still, I hope to see it on my Motorola Droid soon.
