GE Coffee Maker: Recall of almost 1M units by Wal-Mart

A GE branded coffee maker has just been recalled by Wal-Mart, the recall effects 900,000 12-cup digital coffee makers, similar to the one in the image. The machines may overheat and in turn cause fires and burns.

Alissa Figueroa of is reporting that customers should stop using the items straight away and return to their nearest store for a full refund. The machine was sold online and in store from March 2008 to January 2010 for the price of $30. Customers who purchased at can still take their machine to a store for a full refund or store credit.

The machines recalled have the model number 169164 or 169165 located on the bottom of the base. The coffee machines came in black and white with programmable functions. Receipts are not needed for a refund but people who purchased online can access and print receipts on the Wal-Mart website.

So far there have been 83 reports of faults reported to Wal-Mart that includes smoking, burning, fire, and overheating. There have also been three reports of damage to kitchen cabinets or countertops, and customers burning their feet or hands.
