Google Android 2.2 / FroYo: Successor Codenamed Gingerbread

By Jamie Pert - Apr 28, 2010

As you have probably noticed Google have been using names of deserts for their different Android releases, previously we have seen Android 1.5 Cupcake, Android 1.6 Donut and Android 2.0 Eclair, the next version Android 2.2 will be called FroYo, now we are hearing that FroYo’s successor will be called Gingerbread.

As FroYo has not even been released yet details regarding Gingerbread are extremely scarce, however we have heard that Gingerbread will be based on Linux Kernel 2.6.33 or 34, whether it will be Android 2.3, 2.4 or 2.5 is also unclear.

For those of you who don’t know, Google chose the dessert names as it a fun and alphabetical way to easily naming the releases, with C,D,E,F and G all being used now what names should Google use for other releases?

Perhaps Honeycomb for H, Ice-cream for I and Jelly for J, feel free to add your ideas in the comments section below.
