GM Doubles Size of Battery Lab for Chevrolet Volt

GM announced it is investing $8-million to double the size of the largest and most technologically advanced automotive battery lab in the U.S. This will allow the development of electrically driven vehicles to be in the hands of consumers more quickly.

The expanded lab will improve on-site testing of battery cells, modules and packs. And, with the addition, it will allow GM to put cleaner, more efficient vehicles on the road more quickly and affordably.

General Motors plan is to lead the automotive world when it comes to battery technology, cars that will benefit includes the Chevrolet Volt. The expansion will increase capabilities in six key areas, these include:

  • Battery Storage
  • Buildup and Teardown
  • Charger Development and Integration
  • Manufacturing Engineering
  • Safety and Abuse Tolerance
  • Thermal Development
