Apple iPad 3G Vs WiFi: Which is better?

By Alan Ng - Apr 4, 2010

Now that the WiFi version of the Apple iPad is officially available, the focus will now undoubtedly switch to the 3G version of the device, which is expected to be available at the end of April.

We have an article for you to read now, courtesy of Helium, who have compared the pros and cons of each device, giving you a good idea on what to expect for the 3G iPad.

Aside from being compatible with AT&T’s 3G network, one of the main differences for the 3G version compared to the WiFi version is price. If you thought the price tag was expensive for the WiFi version, then you probably won’t be surprised to hear that the 3G version will cost you far more.

After an initial fee of around $629 for the device, data plans are likely to start from $14.99 a month, all the way up to $29.99 per month.

On the plus side, you’ll also get GPS features with the iPad 3G, but the device itself will be slightly heavier than the WiFi version at 1.6lb.

Are you happy with your WiFi iPad, or are you holding out for the 3G version? Let us know your thoughts on both versions.

Get a mobile hotspot (mifi). You can connect all devices to a single sim. Contracts are more generous also.

3G works so much better. I can use it on the go and don't need to connect to EVERY SING
E WIFI network each, (I travel a lot) I can use one!

Except when I go overseas, need to spend a bit more time on that one.

Wifi only is all most people will need. Wifi is now offered at so many places. I was hesitant on the wifi only, but have no regrets. If you have an internet based phone why pay the extra fee. I mean really, how often will you use the 3g ? I only use my macbook on occasion. The ipad is great

Hoping someone responds. I'm curious, with a wifi iPad, couldn't i just download all the apps that I want, and just bring it out "on the go" and play my apps that way. Could someone tell me what other features maybe enticing with the 3g iPad, currently I already know about the emails, web surfing, and GPS, but with PUSH-Emails and Google Maps, couldn't you get most of your information before leaving your wifi area.

I like the WiFi one if I am home but the 3G will definitely have its advantages. I will be ordering the 3G as soon as I find out a definite release / delivery date.
