Verizon iPhone, RIM quarterly earnings, and fiscal 2011 targets

By Peter Chubb - Mar 31, 2010

RIM is about to announce their quarterly earnings as well as its fiscal 2011 targets. As well as talking about the fourth quarter Research In Motion will also hit on the subject if Verizon decides to launch an iPhone and the affects it will have on future BlackBerry handsets.

RIM will announce its earnings today at 5 p.m. EDT via a conference call, ZDNet expects them to do a fine balancing act with its targets. Thomson Reuters has taken a much closer look into this and looks at RIM’s targets.

Stifel Nicolaus analyst Sanjiv Wadhwani has weighed in on this subject and suggests that RIM really needs a new product cycle. The likes of Nokia, Samsung and LG offer new smartphones almost every month – this is something that RIM may have to do if they have any hope of competing with the likes of Apple.

We know that Apple only has one smartphone – the iPhone – but their market share will increase over its current 25 percent if a Verizon iPhone is launched this year.
