Learn to tell the time with new iPhone / iPod touch app

By Gary Johnson - Apr 3, 2010

A clever app that teaches children how to tell the time using an analog clock has just received a major update. MathTappers: ClockMaster 2.0, for iPhone and iPod Touch users, has been designed by math educators – Tim Pelton and Leslee Francis-Pelton – from the University of Victoria.

The app teaches the time with both analog and digital clocks, when the children adjust the hours or minutes, they can see what effect it has on both clocks simultaneously. There is a word clock mode so children can learn word phrases to aid in the learning of the English language.

Released by Heavy Lifters Network, the game has a broken clock mode that removes the minute hand, so users can learn the effect of dragging round the hour hand has on both clocks. The app can be used as personal tutoring tool or used in a group with the aid of an iPad connected to a data projector.

ClockMaster 2.0 is $0.99 but is free app until September 30, 2010 on the App Store. iPhone/iPod Touch required with OS 3.1.3 or later.
