Fake Intel Core i7 Chips: NewEgg fire suppliers IPEX

By Alan Ng - Mar 9, 2010

Following on from our report yesterday, which informed you about fake Intel Core i7 chips in circulation at online retailers, it has been confirmed that NewEgg (one of the retailers in question) has now removed IPEX as one of their suppliers.

As reported from Inquirer, IPEX claimed that the Core i7-920 chipsets that they supplied NewEgg with, were ‘demo units’, but this was later found to be untrue, leading to NewEgg terminating their contract with immediate effect.

While this appears to have helped the situation temporarily, we still dont know the exact figure of fake chips in circulation. We do know that the investigation is ongoing with Intel though, so hopefully we’ll have more details to update you with soon.
