Samsung 40nm DDR3 DRAM 4GB Modules: Industry’s First

Samsung have recently announced their latest memory modules, these memory modules aim do be more efficient than their recently released 30nm DDR3 DRAM modules.

These 40nm DDR3 4GB modules are said to be the industry’s first volume production of this type of module, they are targeted towards data centers, servers, and high-end notebooks.

Samsung suggest that these modules should help OEM’s meet Energy Star ratings, not only this but they will help netbooks extend battery life.

In the future Samsung hope that 90 percent of their DDR DRAM production will utilize 40nm technology. Apparently if a server features a 40nm 2Gb DDR3 it will consume 55W of power, however a 40nm 4Gb DDR3 module will consume just 36W.
