Intel Gulftown and AMD Thuban: Hexacore Processors Coming Soon

By Jamie Pert - Jan 29, 2010

According to some pretty reliable sources it seems as if we could see the release of six-core processors soon, perhaps within the first half of 2010.

If these rumors turn out to be true we could see six-core processors released by both Intel and AMD pretty soon, it is thought that the first ‘hexacore’ processor will be Intel’s Core i7-980X.

The Core i7-980X processor could be released as early as March this year, it is thought that it will be priced at over $1,000, Intel’s first hexacore processors will be part of their Gulftown range.

AMD will be releasing a few processors from their Thuban range in May, there are said to be three chips scheduled for release these are the Phenom II X6 1075T, 1055T and 1035T.

Chances are hexacore processors will not be ‘affordable’ until late 2010/early 2011, as we find out more regarding the chips we will keep you posted, for more information check out SlashGear.
