PS3 Successfully Hacked: Sony Firmware unable to stop it

By Jamie Pert - Jan 25, 2010

The hacker who was the first to break Apple’s iPhone 3.0 firmware has claimed to have successfully hacked the super-secure Sony PlayStation 3, at the moment however there is no evidence to back up his claims.

The hacker is called George Hotz and has recently released a few statements on his blog, one of which read “Three years, two months, 11 days… that’s a pretty secure system”.

He also added “I have read/write access to the entire system memory, and HV level access to the processor. In other words, I have hacked the PS3. The rest is just software. And reversing. As far as the exploit goes, I’m not revealing it yet.”

Hotz believes that once the software is complete it will be a very hard exploit for Sony to block via an update, this could prove to be a massive annoyance for Sony. For information check out MCVUK.

If this recent exploit allows the console to play copied games will you do it?
