Spotify Banned at Oxford University

By Jamie Pert - Jan 19, 2010

Pretty much all of the news we have posted regarding Spotify has been positive, however we are now hearing that Oxford University has now banned the popular music streaming application.

The UK-based University has been forced to ban the application due to the demands it puts on the Univeristy’s Internet connection.

Students are said to be annoyed with the ban and say it is “discrimination against music lovers”, however I feel if it is affecting the effectiveness of the University’s network it has to be throttled.

More knowledgeable students understand the reason behind the ban, on anonymous student stated that “”The ban makes perfect sense if you understand anything about bandwidth and peer-to-peer.” For more information check out Webuser.
