2010 Paris Motor Show: New Mercedes CLS

An all new Mercedes CLS has been unveiled for the forthcoming Paris Motor Show. Due to go on sale in the UK next March, the CLS is the leader in the ‘four-door coupe’ section having pretty much founded the design, giving the idea to Volkswagen for the Passat CC and Audi’s A7.

Styling of the new CLS starts with a modified E-class chassis, made longer with a wider track than the previous model. Full LED headlight units contain 71 LED’s which not only operate the indicators and sidelights but also the main and dip beam. Another key feature is the grille which dominants the front of the car echoing the style followed by the rest of Mercedes current range.

Moving inside, the interior has gained chrome accents and metal-finished buttons. There will be a choice of five interior colours and trim designs, with three types of leather.

As of yet Mercedes are keeping the powerplant details close until the official debut in Paris, but the chances are the German manufacturers latest V6 and V8 petrol engines will be involved. Previous 5.4-litre V8 units will be replaced by 4.7-litre units but with the addition of twin turbochargers. Diesel versions should see the latest design in 3.0-litre common-rail V6 and 2.1-litre four-cylinder twin turbocharged engines. Connected as with the petrol version, to Mercedes seven-speed auto box. Improvements to fuel economy and CO2 emissions will definitely be a factor.
