2010 Paris Motor Show: Lotus Elite First Pictures

Before the Paris Motor Show gets underway with all its exotica on display, Lotus has released first pictures of its latest 2+2 coupe concept. With styling cues similar to that of Aston Martin’s DB9, the new car will feature the KERS hybrid system developed by Lotus.

Unlike almost all other Lotus models (there have only been two others in the companies 52 year history), this car will have the engine in the front. Powered by either a 540bhp or 610bhp 5.0-litre forced induction V8, the coupe will be coupled to a pair of electric motors and an epicycle gearbox from the Lexus LS600h.

Badged as the Elite, Dany Bahar CEO announces the concept as “a car of perfect contradictions: compact yet spacious, high performing yet low emitting, lightweight yet still reassuringly solid.”

A choice of retractable hard-top or fixed-head coupe, the Lotus design has moved away from the normal style, adding a squarer more aggressive front, with chiselled and defined features in the rear. Aimed at the £100.000 plus market, is Lotus set to pave the way for more exciting dual power vehicles?
